70'S REVIVAL

Arrgghhh everywhere I look all I see is a 70’s revival.  So many labels this season have decided to throwback to decades-old silhouettes of flares and maxis.   I didn’t foresee the return of all the fringe detailing and embroidery, not to mention the fabrics like denim and suede for this Summer.

If you read this blog often or visit our Facebook page you will be no stranger to my dislike of the 70’s.  It has been said that it was fashion’s groovy past, I disagree and really, it needs to be left in the past.  Why won’t anyone listen to me?

70's revival

Clearly this is just my opinion.  I am sure many of you would really rock a kaftan or some denim flares, but I just can’t do it.  The 70’s trend of flowing tassels, crochet and smock dresses does nothing for my body shape.  In fact, when I was in my almost-teens way back when…..it wasn’t really working that well for my cherubic body either.  The 70’s styling tends to flatter either an apple body shape (the kaftan really does hide the tummy), or a tall willowy body shape that can look effortlessly elegant in a pair of wide legged pants with a loose cheesecloth tunic.  Obviously neither of these body shapes are ME!

70's revival

I vividly remember squeezing my chubby thighs into a pair of white terry towelling running shorts (stripe on the side of course), with a lemon coloured embroidered flowy off the shoulder frill top and thinking I was one of “Charlies Angels”.  The photos proved otherwise….

70's revival

I can understand the younger generation wanting to experiment with this free flowing boho type vibe but with the stores that attract the over 40’s clientele, you would think they would realise that doing the 70’s once already was enough!

Is it just me?  Are you a 70’s style loving lady?   Is it a time you have fantastic fashion memories? What are you loving and how do you wear it?
